  Asian Beats Special takes us on a journey through some of the most vibrant, overlooked and exhilarating music scenes to emerge across Asia during the sixties and early seventies. Here, rock 'n' roll, the British beat boom, surf, garage and yé-yé pop were absorbed, reinvented and transformed into something unmistakably local, producing records that still sound fresh, inventive and wonderfully alive.

  The journey passes through Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, South Vietnam and Hong Kong, revealing an extraordinary variety of styles along the way. From the driving electric sound of Naomi & The Boys, Lara & The Trailers and D'Swooners to the irresistible Japanese pop of Mie Nakao and Margaret & Bunnys, not forgetting the superb Malaysian recordings of A. Romzi, M. Said, Roshana Othman and Ramli Othman.

  Special attention is given to the Singapore scene, one of Southeast Asia's great musical centres during the sixties. It was here that the so-called Singapore Sound emerged, an explosive blend of Western influences and local sensibilities that produced some of the most exciting recordings in the region. Artists such as Rita Chao, Naomi & The Boys and Lara & The Trailers remain among its finest ambassadors.

  As the session unfolds, fuzz guitars, soaring vocal harmonies, infectious dance rhythms, unforgettable melodies and flashes of psychedelia reveal just how completely the youth explosion of the sixties became a truly global phenomenon. Although many of these records remained virtually unknown outside their home countries for decades, they now stand among the most fascinating chapters in the hidden history of popular music.

  Born In The Garage Vol. 5 temporarily leaves behind the garages of Detroit, London and Los Angeles to explore a musical landscape where the beat acquired new accents, new melodies and an unmistakable identity of its own.

  Here you'll find the fiery rock of Sonic's Rendezvous Band, the experimental art rock of Destroy All Monsters, Wayne Kramer's solo adventures, the streetwise energy of Rob Tyner, and the projects and collaborations featuring Dennis Thompson, creating a collective portrait of life after MC5.

  This isn't a continuation of the MC5 sound, but the story of five musicians who continued exploring new directions without losing the attitude, intensity, or commitment that had always defined them. A collection of singles, side projects and collaborations that proves the end of MC5 was, in fact, the beginning of another story.

  Aquí tenéis el segundo volumen dedicado a Vincent "Vinnie" Bell, uno de los guitarristas de estudio más solicitados de los años sesenta y setenta. Esta selección reúne grandes éxitos que alcanzaron las listas de ventas junto a joyas mucho menos conocidas, todas ellas marcadas, en mayor o menor medida, por el inconfundible sonido de su guitarra.

  Aunque en algunos temas Bell permanece discretamente al servicio de la canción, en la mayoría es fácil reconocer ese estilo tan personal, limpio, cristalino y lleno de efectos que convirtió su forma de tocar en una auténtica marca de la casa. A diferencia del primer volumen, centrado en un abanico más amplio de estilos, esta segunda entrega se mueve principalmente por los terrenos del pop, demostrando hasta qué punto el sonido líquido de Vinnie Bell dejó su huella en la música popular de la época.

  "Pop" puede parecer una etiqueta demasiado simple para definir lo que encontrarás en esta sesión, pero tampoco resulta del todo inexacta. A comienzos de los años sesenta, Ennio Morricone ya trabajaba para RCA Italiana como arreglista y compositor de música ligera, por lo que siempre estuvo abierto a las tendencias y sonidos de su tiempo. Esa curiosidad acabaría reflejándose tanto en sus bandas sonoras como en su música de librería.

  Lejos de dar la espalda a la música moderna, Morricone la abrazó con entusiasmo y la transformó en algo inconfundiblemente suyo. En estas grabaciones de los años sesenta y setenta conviven guitarras distorsionadas, órganos y teclados groovy, ritmos beat, funk, psicodelia y una exotica muy personal, donde incluso la bossa nova encontraba su lugar junto al universo ye-yé. Todo ello envuelto en arreglos sofisticados, melodías inolvidables y ese inconfundible sello que convirtió a Morricone en uno de los compositores más imaginativos del siglo XX.
