  At last, here's a new series that's been a long time coming.

  One thing had always been missing from Estación Zombie: sixties soul. That omission had become something of an obsession, because soul was the natural evolution of American R&B and the music that inspired so many of the garage, beat and rock 'n' roll records featured throughout the channel. It was the missing piece of the puzzle.

  The Soul Vault is a journey into the rawest, most passionate and most authentic side of sixties soul and R&B. From the hard-hitting sounds of Baby Earl & The Trinidads and Alvin Cash to the irresistible grooves of Edwin Starr and Willie Tee, alongside overlooked gems by Ann Caudell, Betty Harris and The Rebel Rousers.

  These are records born in neighbourhood studios and made for small clubs, sweat-soaked dance floors and long nights that seemed as though they'd never end. Voices without safety nets. Rhythms shaped by the street. Soul music that still carries the warmth of the dance floor and the electricity of the early hours.

  Los motores vuelven a rugir, los monstruos salen de nuevo de sus escondites y la aguja cae sobre otra montaña de salvajes singles de rock'n'roll. Bienvenidos a la cuarta entrega de Sock It To Me, Baby!, donde la lógica se queda abandonada dentro del coupé tuneado de algún delincuente juvenil y la diversión toma el volante.

  Aquí encontrarás hot rods lanzados a toda velocidad, surf mutante, ritmos latinos desquiciados, instrumentales cavernícolas y toda clase de extravagantes canciones novelty nacidas durante la edad dorada del single de 45 rpm. Desde garajes manchados de grasa hasta autocines iluminados por neones, estos son los sonidos de neumáticos chirriando, amplificadores al límite y noches que parecían no terminar nunca.

  Lalo Guerrero vuelve a ejercer de maestro de ceremonias en esta celebración fronteriza donde el rock'n'roll se cruza con la cultura chicana, el humor más disparatado y el espíritu desenfadado de los años cincuenta. Por el camino aparecen Frankensteins adolescentes, enterradores bailarines, pandilleros juveniles, surfistas perdidos en el mar de la China, monstruos de laboratorio y un desfile de personajes que podrían haber escapado de un cómic barato o de una sesión doble de sábado por la noche.

  La energía no da un solo respiro. Cada disco aporta una nueva dosis de caos: motores al rojo vivo, guitarras empapadas en reverb, ritmos primitivos, melodías irresistibles y el encanto de unos discos que nunca pretendieron ser sofisticados. Solo querían hacer sonreír, llenar la pista de baile y obligarte a subir el volumen.

  Más basura sonora.

Cheap and Nasty #13: First-Wave Japanese Punk & Post Punk 1978-1983

 

  While punk was shaking the streets of London, New York and Los Angeles, a very different scene was beginning to emerge in Japan. More austere, more unsettling and often far more extreme, it drew inspiration from British punk and art rock while quickly forging a language of its own that would leave a lasting mark on Japan's underground music.

  This session brings together some of the key names from that first wave: from the angular minimalism of Benitokage, Friction, Lizard and Aunt Sally, through the raw urgency of Anarchy, The Star Club and The Stalin, to the abrasive intensity of The Comes and G.I.S.M., where punk was already mutating into the first wave of Japanese hardcore.

  Twenty-five recordings capture a unique moment in time, when Japanese punk stopped looking to the West for inspiration and found its own voice: darker, more unpredictable and unmistakably original.

  Hay canciones que no necesitan palabras. Basta una guitarra afilada, un órgano desbocado, un saxofón salvaje o un ritmo contagioso para contar una historia.
