  Dejamos atrás los revólveres, los duelos al sol y los paisajes polvorientos del Spaghetti Western para adentrarnos en otro de los grandes universos del cine italiano: el de las ciudades iluminadas por neones, los clubes nocturnos, los espías, los gialli, las comedias sofisticadas y el cine de explotación más elegante.

  En esta cuarta entrega de Italian Exploitation Grooves recorreremos un mundo de jazz, lounge, beat, bossa nova, funk, pop orquestal y psicodelia ligera, donde cada melodía parece acompañar a una persecución por las calles de Roma, un crimen perfecto, una fiesta en la Costa Amalfitana o una misteriosa mujer tras unas enormes gafas de sol.

  La sesión reúne a algunos de los compositores más brillantes de la época, como Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani, Piero Piccioni, Bruno Nicolai, Luis Bacalov, Gianni Ferrio, Armando Trovajoli, Alessandro Alessandroni, Nora Orlandi, Giuliano Sorgini o Nino De Luca, auténticos arquitectos de un sonido sofisticado que convirtió incluso las escenas más cotidianas en pequeños momentos de magia cinematográfica.

  Veinticinco piezas donde el ritmo, la elegancia y la imaginación viajan siempre de la mano, demostrando que el cine italiano de los años sesenta y primeros setenta fue mucho más que spaghetti westerns: fue también una inagotable fábrica de melodías irresistibles.

Born In The Garage Vol.1 Gearheads And Go-Go Trash: 60s Underground Mayhem

  After years of publishing sessions under a variety of names and formats, I decided it was time to simplify things. At some point I realised I was spreading myself too thin across too many different series. Some of them were only appearing once a year, or even every eighteen months, which meant too many ideas and too much great music were being left waiting in the wings.

  That's how Born In The Garage came to life. A new Estación Zombie series created as a home for everything I love about the sounds of the sixties and seventies: garage, beat, freakbeat, surf, fuzz, psychedelia, early hard rock and every other electrified mutation that deserves to be rescued from obscurity. The idea was to create a series broad enough to embrace both themed compilations and special features devoted to individual artists, forgotten scenes or any musical obsession that happened to cross my path. Sonny Flaharty, Milan "The Leather Boy," Kim Fowley, Asian beat bands, biker movie soundtracks... they all belong here.

  This first volume serves as a proper statement of intent. A compilation in the tradition of classics such as Back From The Dead, Teenage Shutdown and 66 Breakout!, bringing together twenty-five tracks overflowing with fuzz, teenage attitude and garage energy.

  Although American bands provide the backbone of the collection, the journey also stops off in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Britain and Argentina. We begin with New Zealand's The Librettos and their explosive "She's A Go Go," move on to the superb beat sound of The Human Instinct before their progressive years, the teenage charm of Pandora & The Males and "Kiddie A Go Go," the raw attack of The Rockin' Blewz, fronted by a very young Metal Mike years before Angry Samoans, and a whole parade of bands that sound as though they spent their lives permanently plugged into an overdriven amplifier.

  There's also room for more reflective moments, including the beautiful "Old Country" by Debra Travis and "Is It Them or Me?" by The Visitors featuring Tony, a forgotten gem produced by Mike Curb. Late sixties youth-exploitation cinema also makes an appearance through several tracks connected to Riot on Sunset Strip and Wild in the Streets, featuring both The Standells and the fictional Max Frost & The Troopers, one of the most memorable studio creations of the era.

  Among the many curiosities is the Tony & The Vizitors single produced by Davie Allan and, as a small exception to my usual habit of avoiding the obvious classics, the B-side of MC5's debut single. Everyone knows MC5... but chances are you haven't heard this one nearly as often.

  Ultimately, Born In The Garage Vol. 1 is a declaration of intent.

  Twenty-five records fuelled by adrenaline, ragged guitars, echoes from teenage basements and rock 'n' roll dreams.

  The starting point for a series dedicated to exploring every corner of the wildest and most exhilarating sounds of the sixties.
