  Hubo un tiempo en el que bastaba con encender el televisor para viajar a cualquier rincón del mundo...

o incluso mucho más allá.

  Espías internacionales, detectives al volante de coches imposibles, submarinos futuristas, héroes enmascarados, invasiones extraterrestres, safaris africanos y misteriosas organizaciones secretas llenaban la pequeña pantalla, mientras una nueva generación de compositores escribía algunas de las sintonías más inolvidables de la historia de la televisión.

  TV MANIA! reúne treinta y cinco grabaciones inspiradas en aquel universo de tubo catódico, donde inolvidables bandas sonoras convivían con anuncios, indicativos de continuidad y efectos sonoros que hoy forman parte de la memoria de varias generaciones. Un recorrido por la televisión de los años sesenta y setenta a través del jazz, el funk, el pop instrumental, la library music y el inconfundible sonido de los estudios británicos, estadounidenses e italianos.

  La sesión incluye música de Barry Gray, Lalo Schifrin, Syd Dale, Piero Umiliani, Johnny Hawksworth, Edwin Astley, Brian Bennett, Dudley Simpson, Paddy Kingsland y muchos otros maestros de la música para televisión, junto con fragmentos originales de series tan míticas como The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Captain Scarlet, Stingray, UFO, The Saint, The Fugitive, Daktari, The Invaders, The Tomorrow People o Danger Man.

  Prepárate para una salvaje combinación de instrumentales de rock'n'roll, surf, hot rods, titty shakers y un tramo final de sabor noir acompañado por fragmentos de la banda sonora que Steve Karmen compuso para la película de delincuencia juvenil Teenage Gang Debs. La música ha sido extraída directamente de la película por un servidor, ya que nunca llegó a publicarse una banda sonora oficial. (La única excepción es un single vocal de Lee Dowell, pero como esta sesión está dedicada exclusivamente a instrumentales, tendrá que esperar a otra ocasión).

  Y por si la sesión no fuera ya lo bastante trash, he ido intercalando fragmentos de los delirantes y profundamente reaccionarios sermones antirrock del predicador Jack Van Impe.

  Que Dios lo perdone.

  ¡Hola y bienvenidos de nuevo a FantasticRetroSounds!

  Ha llegado el momento de una nueva entrega de Cult Soundtracks, repleta de una banda sonora imprescindible tras otra.

  Comenzamos con Frank Sinatra Jr., que quizá nunca alcanzó la popularidad de su padre ni de su hermana Nancy Sinatra, pero que junto a Joan Janis compuso un magnífico pop con aroma surf para The Beach Girls and the Monster. También escucharéis su versión instrumental.

  A continuación llegan tres maravillosos temas de Nora Orlandi, no solo cantante, sino también una de las poquísimas mujeres que trabajaron como compositoras de música para el cine en Italia, y prácticamente en cualquier otro lugar. Además, también podréis escuchar su voz.

  Después nos espera Sandy Courage, más contundente que nunca en Hot Rod Rumble, antes de regresar a The Beach Girls and the Monster para recuperar varias piezas incidentales compuestas por Chuck Sagle. Las he extraído directamente de la película y las he montado lo mejor que he podido, ya que nunca llegaron a editarse oficialmente. Una auténtica lástima, porque son demasiado buenas para seguir escondidas.

  La siguiente parada nos deja tres preciosas interpretaciones vocales femeninas: una procedente del episodio 154 de The Twilight Zone, otra de The Night of the Hunter y una maravillosa canción interpretada por Shawn Robinson sobre una composición de Piero Piccioni.

  Las voces femeninas tienen un papel muy especial a lo largo de toda la sesión. También escucharéis a Laura Green en una de las dos piezas que he seleccionado de la banda sonora de Deep Throat. La película es... bueno, Deep Throat... pero es imposible negar lo divertida que resulta su fantástica banda sonora setentera cargada de funk.

  Después llega uno de mis favoritos: el magnífico tema principal de Delirio Caldo, una irresistible mezcla de funk, rock y voces de crooner firmada por Gianfranco Reverberi y Raoul. El sonido no es perfecto porque, por increíble que parezca, tampoco ha sido editado nunca de forma oficial.

  Y para terminar, Lalo Schifrin y el Harry el Sucio original, seguidos por una pieza absolutamente delirante de Jack Arel y Pierre Dutour, compuesta para una película alemana de educación sexual.

  Así que...

¿no os parece una sesión maravillosamente bizarra?

Sesiones Marcianas #31 BIP BOP BOOM

 

  Mucho antes de que existieran el garage, el surf o el punk, ya había una música capaz de hacer temblar cualquier pista de baile. Bastaban una guitarra cargada de eco, un contrabajo aporreado con fuerza y un cantante con la actitud suficiente para convertir un single de 45 rpm en una auténtica descarga de adrenalina.

  BIP BOP BOOM reúne veintiséis explosivas grabaciones donde el rockabilly más salvaje, el rock'n'roll primitivo y el inconfundible sabor del western popcorn se mezclan con ritmos contagiosos, guitarras incendiarias y una buena dosis de humor. Muchos de estos discos nacieron en pequeños estudios independientes y con el paso del tiempo se han convertido en codiciadas piezas de colección.

  Por el camino aparecen nombres imprescindibles como Eddie Bond, Mickey Hawks, Malcolm Yelvington, Marvin Rainwater, Jaycee Hill o Jackie Lee Cochran, junto a auténticas joyas ocultas firmadas por Curly Coldiron, Tony Shepherd, Lance Roberts, Jimmy Minor y Joe Hall & The Corvettes. Incluso encontraremos a un jovencísimo Eddie Cochran en I Hate Rabbits, mientras que Link Wray acompaña a Marvin Rainwater en el tema que pone el broche final a la sesión.

  Veintiséis canciones donde rugen los motores, los pies no dejan de golpear la pista de baile y cada acorde invita a bailar como si todavía estuviéramos en 1959.

  Porque cuando el rock'n'roll aún era joven...

tres acordes, un amplificador al límite...

y un grito de «¡Bip Bop Boom!»

eran más que suficientes para prender fuego a la noche.

parece que esta noche las calles van a estar bastante animadas.

  El título de la sesión de FantasticRetroSounds de esta semana lo dice todo, y además de forma bastante literal: Crime Scene. La primera entrega de una serie dedicada a las bandas sonoras de cine policíaco y a la library music, con especial atención a los años setenta.

  Prepárate para una buena dosis de funk contagioso, guitarras contundentes, beat jazz de alto voltaje y oscuros grooves con sabor lounge...

  Y, sobre todo...

ten mucho cuidado ahí fuera.

   For this edition, Cheap and Nasty hands the controls over to a very special guest. Tireless collector and lifelong devotee of late seventies underground punk, Ron Lacer opens up his personal archive to share an exclusive selection of forgotten gems that rarely surface on the usual compilations.

  The result is a journey through some of the most overlooked corners of international punk, where short-lived bands, independent labels and tiny-pressing singles have since become highly sought-after collectors' items. Britain, the United States, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Canada, Scotland and Australia all contribute their own distinctive chapter to a scene that never stopped reinventing itself.

  Along the way you'll encounter little-known names such as ABH, Speeds, Monitor, The Pinchers, Bloody Mary, The Onits, The Fleshapoids and Eat The Rich, proving that punk was never the exclusive domain of a handful of famous cities or celebrated bands. It was a truly global movement, fuelled by hundreds of groups who cut one or two singles before disappearing into obscurity.

  Twenty-two tracks where punk rock collides with power pop, new wave, art punk and the first synthetic sounds of the early eighties, all driven by the same urgency, the same attitude and the same fiercely independent spirit.

  ABH (78) - brilliant piss take from the UK but it’s so damn catchy! Info is scarce on the label or band members

  SPEEDS (80) - Why isn’t this already on a KBD? I have never heard much about bands in Portugal from back then. Not an easy country to be in a punk band back then. I just came across this killer a few days before this playlist was to be posted and Tony and I agreed it was worth the effort to add this at the last minute.

  NEW MODELS (81) - Great debut 7” from my home city, Boston.

  BOUND & GAGGED (80) - Another great obscure band from Boston. 7 woman band, 4 vocalists, unique art punk. Both these bands were on Modern Method Records, one of Boston’s best labels!

  B TEAM (82) - From San Francisco. I don’t know much about this band but I like it!

  CHI PIG (78) - From a vital comp of the bands from Akron, Ohio. The fertile soil that gave us Devo.

  MONITOR (79) - The demented results of a Los Angeles art / music collective

  The PINCHERS (81) - From the only 7” by this Belgian band. The flipside has been on a few comps but I like this track much more.

  The DOMINOES (82) - From the only 7” from this band from Milwaukee

  The RANDYS (80) - From the only 7” of this band that might be from Oklahoma City

  The BLITZZ (78) - This Dutch band had two 7” and a couple of the tracks have made it onto a few comps. But this one hasn’t and I think it’s the best of the lot.

  BLOODY MARY (78) - Great French rocker, from their only 7”

  NO HORIZON (79) - This crazy German band only released this one record.

  GENOCIDE EXIT (80) - Their only 7” also shared this track with a Sunderland, UK regional comp.

  The ONITS (81) - This Canadian band never got out a second record.

  4/4 (80) - Not sure if they were from New York City or Upstate, but this was the only record they got out. The flipside is also great.

  The VORES (78) - Upstate New York band, from Buffalo. Twisted classic from their first (of two) 7”s.

  The NO NO’s (81) - Probably from Southern California. Their only record.

  The CHEETAHS (79) - Scottish band that never released another record

  The CREDITS (79) - Yeah, another band without a 2nd record. This one is from Australia.

  The FLESHAPOIDS (79) - These crazies are probably from San Francisco. Again, only the one 7”

  EAT THE RICH (83) - This band never even got a record out. But their demo tape ended up on the first release from the phenomenal label Bad Compilation Tapes. I’m pretty sure they’re American, but I’m not sure where they’re from.

  En algún lugar entre un club tropical, una playa imaginaria, un salón de baile de Las Vegas y un bar de carretera nació un estilo de música imposible de clasificar. Un cóctel irresistible donde el rock'n'roll coqueteaba con el cha-cha-chá, el mambo, el jazz latino y la exotica más desenfadada. La banda sonora perfecta para una fiesta en la que a nadie le importaba de dónde venía el ritmo...

siempre que nadie dejara de bailar.

  WHY NOT CHA CHA CHA? reúne veinticinco joyas grabadas entre finales de los años cincuenta y comienzos de los sesenta, cuando los ritmos latinos conquistaron la música popular estadounidense y europea. Bongós, congas, maracas, metales, guitarras eléctricas y órganos Hammond se mezclan en una sesión tan imprevisible como divertida.
