  Holy vinyl, Batman! The Bat-Signal is lighting up the skies over Gotham City once again...

  In 1966, Batman stopped being just a comic-book hero and became a full-blown pop culture phenomenon. Starring Adam West and Burt Ward, the television series, with its impossible colours, outrageous villains and giant on-screen sound effects ("BAM!", "POW!", "ZAP!"), took television by storm and sparked an extraordinary musical craze.

  Within months, dozens of records inspired by the Caped Crusader began appearing. Garage bands, surf combos, instrumental groups, organists, orchestras and every kind of recording artist imaginable rushed into the studio to record their own versions of the Batman Theme, or brand-new songs devoted to Batman, Robin, the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler and the Batmobile.

  Bat-Sounds from Gotham City gathers twenty-five of those recordings, led by Neal Hefti's unforgettable Batman Theme, alongside genuine curiosities by The Standells, The Marketts, Link Wray, Jan & Dean, Nelson Riddle, Frank Gorshin, The Sensational Guitars of Dan & Dale, and many other gems born during the height of Batmania in 1966.

  Surf, garage, rock 'n' roll, instrumental pop and television collide in a session where every guitar seems to announce another rooftop chase across Gotham City, and every Hammond organ accompanies one more of the Joker's fiendish schemes or another of the Riddler's impossible puzzles.

  So buckle up your utility belt...

start the Batmobile...

and remember one thing.

  In Gotham City, whenever the Bat-Signal lights up the sky...
