  The session moves effortlessly between hard-edged beat, high-voltage garage, electrified rhythm & blues and the first flashes of psychedelia. These are records born in smoke-filled clubs, modest recording studios and tiny stages where raw energy mattered far more than technical perfection.   Although Britain provides much of the soundtrack, the journey also reaches Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand, a reminder that the beat explosion was far more widespread than the usual histories would have us believe.
